General Information

Full Name: Alan M. Frankel
Date of Death: Wednesday, November 8, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful man, Alan Frankel. At the time, he was surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters.

Born on September 24, 1946, Alan was a shining example of a husband, father, brother, and grandfather. His unwavering devotion to his family was one of Alan’s defining qualities.

Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, he was drafted into the Army in 1966, where he served as an x-ray technician in Berlin, Germany. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Regina Eichner. They were married 54 years and had two children, Laurie and Jaime. He lived in Glen Rock for 25 years and Woodland Park for 19 years.

He was self-employed as an optician and co-owned Optical Services in Garfield for more than 40 years.

Alan had a special talent for fixing and building anything. Family and friends counted on him to help them whenever they were in need. Alan was quick to lend a hand— or a screwdriver. He also had a varied and well worn T-shirt collection.

He had limitless pride for his family and always put them first. One of his favorite annual traditions was a family trip to Sea Isle City. He rented a home on the beach where his children and grandchildren enjoyed a family vacation. It brought him true joy for everyone to be together under one roof. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Alan is survived by his wife, Regina, his daughters, Laurie Sosson (Dave), Jaime Guglielmi (Joe), and his four grandchildren, Kyle & Will (Sosson) and Sam & Eva (Guglielmi). He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Frankel (Sharon), Paul Frankel (Denise) and brother-in-law Max Eichner (Dona) as well as nieces Lisa, Jennifer, Kari, Lucy, Josie, and nephew Kenny.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Alan’s memory be made to Alpine Learning Group. https://www.alpinelearninggroup.org/support-alpine/
