Barbara “Barbie” Joan Martin (nee Bloom), passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Beloved mother of Allan Martin and his wife Cherylbeth Miedowski, Robyn Martin and her husband Joseph Wilson, Dianne Martin Skol and her partner John Wyse. Loving Gammie to grandchildren Daniel and Joshua Wilson. Longtime companion of John Mernick. Barbie was born in Paterson, NJ on November 21, 1934, to the late Lillian Bloom Berman (nee Saewitz) and the late Samuel Bloom. She is the sister of the late Arlene “Bunny” Bressman (nee Bloom), sister-in-law to Harvey Bressman and Aunt to Andrea Bressman.
A proud resident of Fair Lawn, NJ since 1959, Barbie was warm, effervescent, a character and extremely youthful and hip. Barbie was the winner of the 1954, Ms. Paterson Pageant and was often told she resembled Marilyn Monroe. In the 1950’s, she danced for the USO at Fort Dix and Camp Kilmer. She also taught tap dance and modern dance. Barbie attended secretarial school. She worked at a variety of places, where she was always loved for her enthusiastic and friendly nature. She worked for Pioneer Fire-Proof Doors, Marcus Jewelers, Nabisco, provided childcare and co-owned the Clifton Billiard Lounge with her former spouse and father of her children, Ray Martin, with whom she remained good friends. Barbie was a dedicated Avon lady for over 60 years, back in the days when you had to go door to door. Barbie adored taking pictures, writing poetry, sending cards, flea markets and anything colorful and sparkly. She enjoyed Barbra Streisand, Patsy Cline, Barbie Dolls and watching Days of Our Lives. She loved eating breakfast at the Empress Diner and having dinner at Sanzari’s. Her outgoing nature allowed her to make friends, young and old, wherever she went. Anyone who knew her certainly cherished their relationship.
