General Information

Full Name: Benjamin Lehman
Date of Death: Friday, January 13, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Benjamin Lehman announces his passing on January 13, 2023, after 96 years.  He was a graduate of Syracuse University and a Chemical Engineer at Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway, New Jersey.

Ben, as he was known to all, grew up in Mount Vernon, New York.  He put himself through college with family help and by working a panoply of unusual jobs in New York City and beyond, most famously by driving a Good HumorTM ice cream truck.

He moved to Dover, New Jersey, after marrying Miriam Lehman (née Tucker), who predeceased him.  They were long-time residents of White Meadow Lake and long-time members of White Meadow Temple in Rockaway.  He spent his last years in Whippany, at first with her, and then in River Vale in Bergen County.

Ben’s main focus was his family, followed by White Meadow Temple, which he served in many capacities including Men’s Club President and member of the Board of Trustees and Board committees.  His other interests included music, reading, hospital volunteer work, and not least, golf on the Picatinny Arsenal course.

He is survived by his daughter Adrienne Frager (née Lehman) and his son Stuart Lehman.  He was proud of his grandchildren, Alicia Penn (née Frager, husband Jason Penn) and Matthew Frager (fiancée Evelyn Chhuan), and his great-grandsons Harrison and Grant Penn.  He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Rose Lehman and his sisters Gertrude and Pearl Lehman.

Ben was laid to rest in King Solomon Memorial Park in Clifton, New Jersey.  Shiva is being observed at Stuart’s residence and then at Adrienne’s.
