Caesar M. Silvestro, Sr. passed away on September 5, 2023, just a few days short of his 93rd birthday. He was the son of Marguerite (Formica) and Mario, two Italian immigrants. Caesar was born in Englewood, NJ and spent his formative years in Teaneck, surrounded by the love of his extended family.
After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1948, Caesar was a pre-dental major and earned a degree in Psychology from New York University. He subsequently graduated with honors in 1956 from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry where he earned a D.D.S. degree.
Caesar proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1956-58. He then joined his parents in Hasbrouck Heights, where he established a successful dental practice. His future wife, Pauline (DeRosa), noticed his arrival in town and invited him to a Republican Club event. Six months later, they were married. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Caesar achieved an M.S.D. in Orthodontics from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He later expanded his practice, opening a second office in Glen Rock.
Caesar enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as basketball and baseball. He fell in love with Montauk, Long Island in the early 1960’s when it was a small fishing village. He loved chartering boats and would charter boats with friends and family, friends and take family vacations there for decades. Caesar relished following his grandchildren’s sports and careers, son’s, Caesar Jr, and grandson’s, Caesar III, basketball careers and grandson’s, Joeseph, baseball career.
In 2010, he made Pt. Pleasant Beach his home, living with his daughter’s family along the Manasquan Inlet. It was there, at “The Wall” that he applied his talent for creating renowned fishing lures and forming lasting friendships. He joined the Point Pleasant Fishing Club, creating countless cherished memories aboard the Ideal.
He is preceded in death by his adored wife of 49 years, Pauline DeRosa Silvestro. Caesar is survived by his children: Caesar Jr. and wife Susan Silvestro of Ridgewood, and Marilyn and husband Tom Grabowski of Pt. Pleasant Beach, along with his cherished grandchildren Alli, Sarah, Joseph, and Caesar III.
A private burial will be held. In memory of Caesar, donations can be made to the Point Pleasant Fishing Club at 2 Jeffers Court, Brick, NJ 08724.
