Carolyn Cooperman, 81, of Woodland Park, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2024, after a courageous battle with gallbladder cancer.  

Born on June 24, 1942, to Mildred and Maxwell Wolfe, Carolyn and her sisters, Baylah and Diane, were raised in West Hempstead, NY.  In 1964, she graduated from NYU with a bachelor’s degree in teaching.  That same year, she married her beloved sweetheart of almost 60 years, Joel.  She completed a master’s degree in human sexuality from NYU in 1977.  She worked for Planned Parenthood for 10 years, developing lesson plans that were used nationally for sex education curriculum.  After completing a second master’s degree in social work from Columbia University in 1988, Carolyn began her second career as a therapist, with a special interest in women struggling with infertility.  She remained active in reproductive health education even after retirement, developing another manual, Sex Ed in the Digital Age, in 2014

Carolyn had numerous interests.  She was passionate about women’s rights and political activism, serving as the Democratic representative from Four Seasons to the Borough of Woodland Park.  She also loved watercolor painting, beading, reading, cooking, and traveling around the world with Joel.  

Aside from her husband, Joel, Carolyn is survived by her children, Laura Smith and Sandy Burns, sister, Diane Wolfe, sister-in-law, Audrey Rosen, son-in-law, Dan, grandchildren, Kiana, Melinda, Amber, and Ethan, and many nieces and nephews.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List, or the American Cancer Society.
