General Information

Full Name: Coral R. Groh
Date of Death: Tuesday, January 23th, 2024

Coral R. Groh, as lovely a human being as was her name, passed away January 23, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, respect, and kindness. These virtues were greatly shaped by her family and the resilience she cultivated as a child in London during World War II. Coral took a sincere interest in whatever you were doing, whether you were a beloved relative or someone she had just met. She made everyone feel special.

Coral married Joel B. Groh in London, England and later settled in Syosset, New York, where they started a family. The family then moved to Ramsey, New Jersey, where Coral distinguished herself as an executive secretary. She worked with four superintendents of the Ramsey Board of Education, bringing both efficiency and a warm presence to the office.
After Joel’s passing in 1985, Coral concluded her career with the Board of Education, while continuing her passion for volunteer work, including at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

Embracing a new chapter, Coral relocated to New York City, where she maintained a vibrant social life with both longstanding and new friends. Coral embarked on many trips to Europe and Asia with friends and each grandchild.

Initially a volunteer at The Frick Collection, her dedication and charisma led to becoming an employee. There, she thrived, particularly enjoying conversations with visitors from around the globe.

In her later years, despite the challenges of cognitive decline, Coral’s positive spirit and zest for life enabled her to overcome numerous obstacles. Her resilience and joy remained undiminished.

Coral is survived by her children, Wayne (Judy), Andrew (Jody), and Valerie (Andy); her six grandchildren, Rachel (David), Remy, Gabrielle (Brad), Ian, Jack, and Joshua, who were the apples of her eye, and her younger sisters, Shirley and Susan (Joe), and loving nieces and nephews.

A smart, strong, and giving soul, Coral R. Groh will forever be held close in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
