Dorothy Jacobs was a very dear friend. We met when both of us were working at the Patterson, NJ Social Security office. Along with two other women from the office, we met for dinner or lunch monthly for many years after each of us retired. Wherever we met, we lingered a long time, sharing whatever had occurred since our last get-together. Dorothy was a wonderful story-teller and always came prepared with a good joke, eager to bring out smiles in everyone. And she listened with great interest and compassion.
Dorothy’s husband, Ralph, had a major stroke just a few months after her retirement. For several years after that, Dorothy cared for Ralph at home with attention to everything that made him more comfortable, and that kept him engaged. During this time, she also helped many other neighbors in their apartment community, providing transportation, shopping, and visits. She continued her kindness to others for many years, until it was no longer possible for her.
Dorothy cared deeply about people and was a loyal, loving friend to many. I am grieved by her loss and miss her every day.
