General Information

Full Name: Edythe Weinerman
Date of Death: Saturday, January 15, 2022

Edthye (Edy) Weinerman, of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022 at the age of 94. Born on December 9, 1927 in New York, she was the daughter of the late Rose and Morris Greenburg.

Edy enjoyed nearly 47 happy years of marriage with Sidney Weinerman until his passing in 1995. Surviving are Edy’s daughter/son-in-law Mindy and Frank Bondroff of Towaco, NJ and her son/ daughter-in-law Lee and Judy Weinerman of Me dina, Ohio. Edy was Nana to her four grandsons and “GG” to her four great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Beatrice and Irv Raiken and aunt to Larry and Michele Raiken and their children.

One defining element of Edy’s life was her ab solute devotion to her family and friends. She was a fixture in her grandsons’ early childhoods, to such an extent that they credit her for teaching them to read. Even well into their adulthood, there was never a missed birthday phone call or trip into New York City or Ohio. Similarly, she had the strongest bonds with her own children. She spoke to Mindy on the phone every day and visited Lee in Ohio often. Her congeniality and love was so impactful in her grandsons’ lives that their friends also referred to her as Nana, as she was in many ways a grandparent to them as well.

Edy valued learning; she graduated from Taft High School, Queens College and William Pat terson University. She used her knowledge to teach special education in Glen Rock, NJ for over 25 years where she loved her students and was happy to help them succeed. She felt called to teaching and community service, so much so that she spent her free time tutoring and mentoring. After her retirement, Edy spent many years in her second home in Tamarac, Florida. In Florida, Edy found many great new friends and volunteered to work with children in foster care. She will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her friends, neighbors and communities in both Fair Lawn and Florida.

Donations in her memory can be made to Special Olympics New Jersey, 1 Eunice Kennedy Shriver Way, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 (https:// support.specialolympics.org/a/new-jersey).
