Full Name: Elayne Matusow

Full Name: Elayne Carol Gross Matusow
Date of Death: Wednesday, March 1, 2023

Elayne Matusow, 87, longtime resident of Fort Lee, NJ, originally and proudly from the Bronx, passed away on March 1, 2023.

Elayne was predeceased by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Danny, by her dear parents, Ruth Gross (née Taitz) and Joseph Gross, and by her best friend in childhood, Phyllis Falberg. She was the adored mother of her boys, Harlan and Bart, and the loving mother-in-law of their respective wives, Nicole and Natcha. The lights of her life were her grandchildren, Ben, Hannah, Preston, and Arielle, all of whom cherished her.

Elayne is survived by her beloved brother, Michael, with whom she shared not only a unique sibling bond, but a decades-long history of love and and daily communication, sister-in-law Susan, with whom she was as close as a loving sister, their children Jennifer and Jody, respective spouses Michael and Lisa, grandnephews Sander, Griffin, and Jake, and grandniece Lily.

Elayne also leaves behind not only nieces and nephews, but their spouses, children, and partners, all of whom treasured – and wondered at – the energy, style, and verve of Aunt Elayne. Jay, Jamie, Helen, Phread, Rachel, Bill, Seth, Emma, Genna, Vashti, Marcy, and Josh.

Elayne was blessed with many friends. Not only did she maintain friendships from the “old days” (some for 70 years!), but she was the kind of individual who made them over the course of a long and loving life.

Born and raised on Wyatt St., in the Bronx, Elayne graduated from James Monroe High School in 1953. She worked at a variety of radio stations, behind the scenes and was proud of her fastidious secretarial skill set. Later in life, she enjoyed working in cosmetics, finally making some money in Bloomingdales, instead of – or one might say, in addition to – spending it.

Elayne was truly one-of-a-kind, from her love of life, to her energy, adventurousness, style, glamor, and how she loved and was loved by those who knew her.

Yes I may dream a million dreams,
But how can they come true,
If there will never ever be another you?

Memorial donations in memory of Elayne Matusow may be made to the United Jewish Federation (UJA) in her name.
