General Information

Full Name: Florence Gelman
Date of Death: Saturday, December 28, 2019

Florence Gelman was born on a kitchen table in Brooklyn, NY in 1926. She was a kind, hardworking, and intelligent woman who had several careers throughout her life.  Florence was a teacher, a business owner, a bookkeeper, an entrepreneur, a dedicated Rachel Maddow watcher, and sage to us all.  Always informed and able to comment with fervor on current events, she carried this passion to her last moments.

Florence had an inquiring mind and was a savvy bridge player. In her earlier days she was a skilled tennis player and enjoyed a round of golf.  She was observant and curious, her analytical mind always on the alert and she shared her nuanced observations with us all.  Even to the last days of her life, she continued to read and learn.  A woman of talent and creativity, she could sew, knit, crochet, design and had awesome skills in the kitchen – her chopped liver, latkes and gefilte fish always received rave reviews.

Florence was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She attracted friends with her kind and open manner and inviting smile.  We were charmed by her ability to listen and share and were thoroughly entertained by her wit and dry humor.  She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of dear Flo, let us be kind to one another and find the humor wherever we can.
