Full Name: Howard Fredrick Funt
Date of Death: Friday, April 9, 2021
Howard F. Funt passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the age of 73. He was born in Coney Island, New York on October 21, 1947 to Milton and Mildred Funt. Howard (Howie) was the oldest of two sons. His brother is Bruce Robert Funt.
Howie married Susan LaPlante on March 17, 1990 and was married for over 31 years.
Howie began selling cars, vans, and trucks in the early 70s and eventually bought property and relocated Scheuer Motors to Rte. 46 in Elmwood Park. His company has been thriving for over 40 years and remains a successful dealership servicing Elmwood Park and the surrounding areas of New Jersey.
During his younger years, he was an avid tennis player and always enjoyed watching the US Open. Howie loved the Yankees! He could watch them for hours.
One of Howie’s many joys was going to St. Maarten annually in January. Despite the hurricanes and property damage, he still went and never missed a year. He enjoyed vacationing there with Susan. In later years, Howie would go there with his dear cousin Jill and his brother Bruce. He recently enjoyed a trip with his grandson Jake and girlfriend. Many friendships were born from these annual trips.
Howie enjoyed buying and selling vehicles. He enjoyed going to the auction and then being able to provide his customers with that specific truck or car they needed. He has likely sold over 5000 vehicles in his lifetime.
Howie is survived by his wife Susan, his brother Bruce and nephew and godson, Matthew, his son Jason Funt and wife Melanie, deceased daughter Michelle Mitchell, grandchildren, Christine, Jake, and Jason Michael and his great grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Howie’s memory can be made to the Hardyston Township First Aid Squad who were instrumental in trying to survive our Howie.
