Ira Mordkowitz, age 86, formerly of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday surrounded by his family. He was the beloved son of the late Benjamin and Mildred Mordkowitz. Ira is survived by his sister Marcia Rosenthal and was predeceased by his brother-in-law Irving Rosenthal.  He was the cherished uncle to Richard, Wendy, Russell and the late Mark and a very loving great uncle to Amanda and Bria.  Ira was born in New York City and grew up in the Washington Heights area.   Ira graduated cum laude from Pace University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters from NYU in educational psychology and remedial reading. Ira enjoyed reading for leisure, watching and quoting old movies (including a mean impersonation of Jimmy Cagney) and traveling all over the world with his lifelong dear friend, Jerry Jacobs. He regularly attended daily services at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center, in Fair Lawn, NJ and was honored in 2015 for his devoted service to the synagogue.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for all the care, kindness, and friendship shown to Ira these past few years. Also, a sincere thanks to the ICU team at Albany Medical Center for their care and compassion.
