Paramus-Irma Leeds,93 passed away from natural causes on Monday Jan. 24, 2022. She was born March 19,1928 in Bronx, NY. She was a graduate of Hunter University. She taught elementary school in Yonkers and Mt.Kisco, NY. She moved to Washington Heights when she married and as her family grew moved to Laurelton, Queens. Then, in 1964 she moved to Paramus, where she resided for the next 58yrs.
Irma was very involved in the community and 1960s local politics. Some of the organizations she belonged to were the League of Women Voters, the Paramus Women’s Club, American University Women, The Jewish community center of Paramus and many book groups. She was always interested in learning and traveled extensively all over the world. She went back to school in the 1970s and earned a Masters degree in education when she was 50. During this time she worked at Bergen County Special Services as an administrator interviewing both students for placement and teachers for jobs. Later on she was a principal and program director.
She loved her many friends and family. She was the cherished wife of the late Bernard Leeds (1994) and loving mother of Harriet Leeds (2020). She leaves behind daughter Miktoria Sobel and husband Steve, son Michael, Eric Leeds and his wife Gail, sons Zeke and Zach, Janet Leeds and husband Rena Fontaine, daughter Amber Fontaine Collins . Irma is also survived by her sister in law Eve Plotkin and her children Lisa and Rick, great nephews and niece and many friends.
