Full Name: Jacob Green
Date of Death: Tuesday, March 9, 2021
Jacob Green, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 91 on March 9, 2021. He was born and raised in Bayonne, New Jersey and later resided in West Orange, Mendham and Chester. Known for his love of family, friends and good food, Jack’s joie de vivre was infectious. His love of life was matched by his profound intellect. He put himself through college and law school, graduating among the top of his class at NYU Law School. He began practicing law in 1953 and eventually concentrated in school law and public sector labor relations, becoming a widely respected pioneer in those fields. He was a cherished colleague and a mentor to many attorneys who still fondly recall his generosity, wit and wisdom and ethical guidance.
Although law and learning were major forces in his life, his true love was his family, especially his wife, Dena. One of their early dates was at the Metropolitan Opera and they continued to share a love of laughter and music for over 67 years. Music, art, reading and travel were a staple of their lives for decades to come, including many happy summers on Cape Cod.
Jack was active in Congregation Oheb Shalom in South Orange, the West Orange Jewish Center-B’nai Shalom, and the Morristown Jewish Center-Beit Yisrael. He is survived by his wife Dena Green, his children Paul Green (Kathy), Eric Green, and Nancy Green (Frank Jarvis), his sisters Marilyn Gittleman and Deborah Brody, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral will be held at Mount Moriah cemetery in Fairview, New Jersey on Friday, March 12th at 11:00 am with immediate family only in attendance. The funeral will be livestreamed at https://www.yourlifemoments.live/jacob-green.
