General Information

Full Name: Joan Marlene Beloff
Date of Death: Tuesday, November 15, 2022

Joan M. Schanen Beloff of Wayne, NJ, passed away on November 15, 2022.
Beloved wife and best friend of Andrew H. Beloff for 51 years. 51 beautiful years together
spent laughing, learning, loving, building a community of friends that became family, becoming
parents, facing challenges, overcoming them hand-in-hand and celebrating the ultimate joy that
is their granddaughter Zoe.
Joan was also a devoted mother to two daughters, Joslyn Beloff Scheck and Lauren Beloff, and
delightful mother-in-law to Jeffrey Scheck. She was excited to be welcoming Adam Klein into
her family.
Loving sister to Glen Schanen, whom she absolutely treasured from the moment he was born
and who felt the same about his big sister. Proud sister-in-law to Adriana and Aunt to Madeline
and Julia.
Joan also leaves behind a special group of close friends, many of whom she truly considered
family.
Born in White Plains, NY, Joan graduated from Hofstra University in 1975. She worked at
several places over the course of her career, each leaving an imprint. Her first job was with
Ridgewood Nursing Home, then in 1987 she joined the new YM-YWHA of Bergen County.
Finally, in 1992, she started a 30-year career with Chilton Memorial Hospital, rising to Chief
Development Officer. She was an active voice in the Wayne area, connecting people to each
other and their community through programs she developed at the hospital. Her earlier work
with the “Y” created innovative programs for children of all abilities, as well as the senior
citizens who counted on her to provide safe and well-curated spaces to spend their days. In
addition, Joan co-authored a book dedicated to helping caregivers of dementia patients, called
Through the Seasons.
Joan is predeceased by her parents Murray and Florence Schanen and her in-laws Sydney and
Esta Beloff.
