Joan Strauss of Hackensack, and formerly Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. She was 82 years old. Joan was the daughter of Bertha and Walter Plaut. She was born and raised in Manhattan.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 59 years, Theodore, and loving children Lisa Urbanski, and Amy Mikelis and her husband Demetri. She was a proud grandmother to Michael Urbanski, and Hannah and Georgina Mikelis.
Joan was always studying and took various classes at many educational institutions, interior design schools, and was a member of the Fair Lawn Art Association.
She loved reading 5 books at a time and had great appreciation for culture, travel, flowers and plants, and all beautiful things. She was a very creative and talented artist, which graduated over time from pottery to charcoal sketching, watercolor painting, and ultimately impressionistic oil painting, which was her true passion, and for which she consistently won numerous awards year after year. Joan enjoyed taking long walks and swimming regularly at the Ridgewood Y for as long as she could.
