Date of Death: Monday, October 30, 2023

Joseph Long, of Fair Lawn, passed away on October 30, 2023, at the age of 88.

Joseph David Long was born in 1934 and raised in his beloved Passaic.  After graduating from the University of Vermont and New York Law School, he joined his father as a manufacturer’s rep in the shoe business.  The family-owned factory in Passaic produced women’s shoes under the name “Hobby Nobbies”.  He continued in the shoes business as a rep for Soldini Men’s Italian and Casual Shoes.  He traveled to Italy as a liaison for US imports.  This shoe career continued out of Farmington, Missouri where he repped baby shoes.

After several years of retirement, he went back to help his hometown of Passaic at the Affordable Housing Corporation as Assistant Executive Director.  He helped first time home buyers apply and get two family homes under new construction.  He undertook projects, implementing policies and procedures of the organization with marketing activities, community outreach, and by utilizing city, state, and federal grants.  He coordinated all aspects of projects including, but not limited to, the First Time Home Buyer Program, new construction, and rehabilitation.  He interfaced with the board, director, attorney, and other staff to accomplish organizational goals.

After retiring from the Passaic Affordable Housing Corporation, he joined the board of the Fair Lawn Opportunity Center for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Baron), of 56 years; his son, Adam Long; his son, Brian Long and wife, Jill; his two granddaughters, Ava and Lia; and his extensive collection of tennis racquets.

The family asks that memorial donations may be made in remembrance of Joseph to any organization that will honor his memory.

Such a great guy.! I loved when he brought those fun games to the New Year’s Eve parties, and we played with the girls against the guys. What fun times we had! I will miss his lovely greeting, “Hello, Elizabeth!” I know he is with his Passaic friends up in heaven. Joe Long will be missed here on earth.
