General Information

Full Name: Judith C. Blake
Date of Death: Tuesday, October 10, 2023

Judith Chessin Blake (Judy), formerly of Fair Lawn, passed away at the age of 88 on October 10, 2023, after a valiant two-year battle with cancer.  She was the daughter of the late Philip and Fannie Shapiro Chessin of Fair Lawn/Paterson.  She was also pre-deceased by the love of her life, Stanley Blake. Judy and Stan shared over 60 years of total devotion to each other.

Judy was the cherished mother of her daughter Dara Gelerter (husband Neil) and her son James Blake (wife Cari). She was the very proud grandmother of Grace Blake, Hannah Blake (husband Matt) and Maxwell Blake.

Judy was pre-deceased by her brother Barnett Chessin (wife Laure); and survived by her sister Ruth Chessin Brooks; brothers Neil Chessin (wife Susan), Henry Chessin (wife Betty) and sister Saragail Chessin Carpe.

Judy faced the loss of her wonderful husband Stan and the challenge of cancer with incredible determination and strength. She had a dynamic personality, and fiercely loyal to her family and the friends she loved.

Judy was awarded her nursing degree as well as bachelor’s degree; and she devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a dedicated volunteer in educational and religious institutions.  Among them Yavneh Academy, YM-YWHA (Paterson/Wayne), the Jewish Federation, and Camp Veritans.  All were cherished by Judy and her family.

Her love for her siblings and extended family (nieces and nephews) was a gift and blessing.  She guided us all through life’s many celebrations and challenges.

Her memory will be a blessing.
