Lynn Leifer, a resident of Fair Lawn has died at the age of 73 from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. Lynn is survived by her children Becky Leifer, David Leifer (Jessica Leifer), and Rachel Gavazzi (David Gavazzi) along with her grandchildren Mason, Alessandra, Margot, and Brayden. She is also survived by her sister, Marcia Tolep and her sons Andy and Scott Tolep. She is predeceased by her husband, Barry Leifer and brother Stephen Tolep.

 

 

Lynn was born in 1949 in Brooklyn New York where she grew up in the Canarsie projects with her mother, father and brother in a high rise where they cooked every night and loved to play cards and listen to music. She was in several mathematics clubs in high school and graduated with honors. She then went on to Brooklyn college where she continued her studies in math and computer science. She married Barry in 1970 and soon after moved to her first house in Fair Lawn on Cyril Avenue where she had her first daughter, Becky in 1976. She later moved to D’Auria Drive when her family was expanding to three children. Lynn worked first as a computer programmer, and later in life as a middle school math teacher in Tenafly, NJ.

 

 

Lynn was an avid bridge player, Scrabble player, and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved going to see Broadway shows in Manhattan and would try to go every year when she was healthy. She loved spending time with kids, especially her grandchildren, and had a special place in her heart for dogs of any kind. Lynn was a fighter and fought this terrible disease for 18 years. She had wonderful care from her home nurses, Bernadine Dubique, Joyce Steele, Dorna Robinson, and Anora Scotland.

 

 

A funeral will be held at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway, Fair Lawn at 11am on Thursday, April 13th. A shiva will be held at the family house from 2pm onwards at 399 Plaza Road N in Fair Lawn.
