It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Marc Schonbaum, loving husband, father and grandfather this past Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the age of 76.
Marc was born in Romania and at the age of 5, moved with his mother Yetty to Brooklyn NY. Marc met his wife Estelle in upstate NY, while vacationing when he was just 17 years old. Marc and Estelle were high school sweethearts and married for 54 years. They lived and raised their family in Spring Valley NY before moving to their current home in Mahwah NJ.
Marc was a proud and loving father/grandfather who always put his family first. He is survived by his loving wife Estelle; daughter Gayle and her husband Tim; daughter Risa; and grandchildren Jenna and Justin. Marc had a successful career as a businessman working in the insurance industry. He also had great pride and respect for his role as a volunteer firefighter and President at Hillcrest Fire Company No.1 in Spring Valley NY for almost 40 years. He devoted endless hours helping and protecting the community. Marc has been working at Bergen County Golf for over 15 years where he developed his love for the game of golf.
Marc always demonstrated unconditional love and devotion to those he cared about and nothing gave him more joy than being surrounded by his family. In addition, he would not hesitate to stop and lend a helping hand to a friend or neighbor.
Marc’s unexpected passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
