Muriel (nee Neider) Barker, age 90, of Fair Lawn, NJ, formerly of Bronx, NY,
passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday afternoon, December 16, 2020
surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Graham Barker. Loving
mother of Mitchell Barker and his wife Amelia, and Susan Barker. Cherished
grandmother of Hannah Barker, Dani Barker, Joshua Barker Gordon and Theodore
Barker Gordon and his wife Hannah Burnett. Dear sister of Rita Schwartz and her
husband Charles, and Barbara Rosen and her husband Melvin. Beloved aunt of
Marcy, Allison ( Jay ), Jon ( Cecilia ) , Marsha ( Larry) , Jack ( Pam) . Sister-in-law of
Florence Barker and Madeline Barker.
Muriel graduated from Roosevelt High School in Bronx, NY, proudly attended City
College of New York, and earned her Bachelor and a Master Degrees in Education
from William Paterson University. Muriel was an elementary school teacher in
the Saddle Brook NJ School System for 23 years and after retiring she and Graham
enjoyed traveling, theatre, opera, and long days at the beach. A life-long learner,
later in life Muriel became an avid bridge player, earning master points in local
tournaments.
Muriel was a 64-year member of the Fair Lawn Jewish Center and a member of its
Sisterhood. She was an active member of The National Council of Jewish Woman,
Jersey Hill Section.
Muriel enjoyed gathering friends and family at her home and was the matriarch of
a large extended family . She was a vibrant, generous woman who cherished her
many dear friends, enjoyed a good conversation but, most of all, she loved and
was devoted to family.
A small graveside service will be held 12:00pm Sunday December 20, 2020 at
Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ. A celebration of her life will be held at a later
date.
Memorial donations in memory of Muriel Barker may be made to the National
Council of Jewish Woman, Jersey Hill Section , The National Parkinson’s
Foundation, or your own favorite charity. Arrangements by Louis Suburban
