Phyllis Dunsay, a retired mathematics textbook editor, passed away on September 7, 2024, following a stroke. She was a beloved mother of Jonathan, Aaron and Joseph, and grandmother of Eliza and Asher. She was married for many years to Peter Dunsay, and raised a family with him.
Born in Queens, NY in 1942 to Norman and Anna Miller, Phyllis earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics from Adelphi University. She was the vice-president of the Math Club at Adelphi and Peter was the president. They married in 1965.
After graduation, she began her career in publishing when options for women were restricted. Throughout her long career, she wrote and edited scores of mathematics textbooks. One of her greatest accomplishments was a textbook series for special needs students which included a rigorous section on Geometry.
Beyond her professional achievements, Phyllis cared deeply for her family, both immediate and extended. She had a wide circle of friends across the country and the world. She loved to read, travel, and sing in the temple choir. She lived a full life and will be greatly missed.
