General Information

Full Name: Dr.Terrence A. Leingang
Date of Death: Saturday January 20th, 2024

It’s unusual that a boy from Dayton, Ohio would become a psychiatrist and go on to spend 50 years at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. But Terry was unusual. He had a great passion for photography, for New York City, and for his own jokes. But first and foremost, he was a loving husband, father, brother, son, and the ultimate grandpa. He will be dearly missed.

When I think of Terry, I am always reminded of John Lennon. Not only because Terry loved the Beatles, which he did, but because he was simultaneously a free spirit and a gentle one. He explored life to the fullest, and his powerful love of family and friends shone forth. We will miss you brother. I am proud to have known you.

I’ll miss sharing a bottle of good red wine with Terry, during our sadly, too infrequent dinners, while Jane sipped her dirty martini & Skip, his bloody Mary. All while savoring good food, peppered with discussions of politics (heated), the finer points of photography (never ending) & football ( Ohio State & the Cowboys). And always room for a good tarte tatin! He lived life to the fullest & we will miss him.

I want to let his family know that I was a patient of Dr.Leingang’s starting from back in 1994. He was a great man, such a very kind, intelligent, and compassionate doctor. I had not seen him in years, but spoke with him last year. He did me favor calling in medication to a drugstore for me and asked for no money, nothing from me in return. He was such a very kind man to me over the years. He helped me with my obsessions, depression, delusions, etc, way more than anyone else did in my life. This is a very sad day for me, as I just found out that Dr. Leingang has died. Thank you, Dr. Leingang, for being such a tremendously caring doctor in my life, I hope you are somehow in a better place now. May God rest your soul.
