On March 25, 2021, Violet Lavenda, loving wife and mother of three
children, passed away at the age of 98. She lived most of her life in
River Edge, NJ.
Violet was born on November 16, 1922 in Passaic, NJ to Morris and Lena
Edelman. She graduated from Passaic High School. As a teenager, she
was introduced to the love of her life, Nathan Lavenda, as a joke by
someone who thought it would be funny for her to marry him and become
Violet Lavenda.
Nathan was shipped overseas to serve in World War II, but they
maintained a close relationship through hundreds of letters over the
course of the war. After Nathan returned home, they were married on
October 27, 1946. They remained married for 67 years until Nathan’s
death in 2014.
Violet was also preceded in death by four older sisters, Eleanor
Radin, Ida Edelman, Ethel Cohen and Rose Novack.
She is survived by three children, Leonard Lavenda (Carol), Diane
Lavenda (Kenneth Traum) and Wendy Lavenda Carroll (John); three
grandchildren, Daniel Traum (Jolene), Alexander Traum and Rebecca
Carroll; and two great grandchildren, Naomi Traum and Ryden Traum.
Nat and Vi spent their senior years traveling around the world,
expanding their knowledge of interesting, far away places.
Violet is remembered as a patient and kindhearted woman whose life
revolved around her family. Her life will never be forgotten by all
those she touched and loved.
She was buried on March 29, 2021 in Beth El Cemetery, Paramus, NJ,
next to Nathan.
