June 15, 1937 – February 7, 2026
Arnold S. Cohen, Esq., a distinguished attorney, educator, and dedicated public servant, passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 88.
Arnold devoted more than five decades to the practice of law and to serving the communities of northern New Jersey with integrity, intellect, and deep commitment. He maintained a private law practice in Wanaque, New Jersey from 1971 to 2002, concentrating on litigation in matrimonial and family law, estates, real estate, municipal law, business enterprises, and juvenile matters. Over the course of his career, he mentored associates, law clerks, and staff, leaving a lasting professional legacy.
In addition to private practice, Arnold served in numerous municipal and county appointments, including Municipal Prosecutor, Municipal Judge, Borough Attorney, and Attorney to various Boards of Adjustment and Planning Boards throughout Passaic County. He also served as Attorney to the Passaic County CETA program and held leadership roles within local civic organizations. His commitment to public service extended to roles as President of the Wanaque Chamber of Commerce and President of the Ringwood–Wanaque Rotary.
Arnold was equally passionate about education. He served for many years as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Passaic County Community College, where he taught courses in business law, finance, accounting, criminal justice, and legal history. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Arnold was known for his love of sports and tradition. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, he also never missed watching his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes football games. He took great pride in his extensive baseball memorabilia collection and delighted in sharing stories that connected his personal interests with his legal career—especially his fond recollection that Derek Jeter’s grandmother was once his client, a fact he treasured deeply.
Arnold is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Ellen Meyerstein Cohen, whose love and partnership were the foundation of his life. He will be remembered as a man of sharp intellect, unwavering loyalty, and deep pride in both his profession and his passions.
His legacy lives on through the many clients he served, students he taught, colleagues he mentored, and friends and family who loved him.
