General Information
Full Name: Donald Bruce Kunins
Date of Death: May 23, 2026
Donald Kunins was born in the Bronx, New York, to Lee Rolnick Kuninsky and Hilbert Kuninsky in 1931. He was the loving husband of 63 years to Ella Borzikowsky Kunins. A proud graduate from the Bronx High School of Science and The Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute where he received his degree in Civil Engineering, he then served in the Korean War teaching map reading. Don spent most of his career as the owner of a Bronx sheet metal business along with his father and brothers.
His intelligence and curiosity fostered a prodigious knowledge in such wide-ranging fields as metallurgy, ship building, and the historic sites across the world to which he traveled. His devotion to education led him to serve on the School Board of Education, on which he advocated for special education program funding and racial integration. Don’s commitment to learning inspired his daughters’ paths to medicine.
An expert at home repair, he devoted much of his spare time to lovingly maintaining the home that he and Ella purchased in 1966. Among his greatest pleasures was walking in the outdoors, especially in the Palisades and along the Hudson River.
A devoted father to Lisa and Hillary and grandfather to Eli and Livia, he spent countless hours catching worms for reptilian pets, providing early cooking lessons in the art of scrambled eggs and oatmeal making, and playing catch. In addition to his daughters and grandchildren, Don is survived by his loving sons-in-law and nephews.
Family and friends to meet at the cemetery office at 10:30AM.
