Bernard “Bernie” Brinnitzer of Paramus passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Born in Berlin, Germany, Bernie survived Nazi persecution and allied bombings before immigrating to New York City in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1951–1953) and subsequently moved to Detroit. He spent 40 years in retail management with Neisner Bros and Ames Department Stores, notably surviving the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado in Crystal Lake, Illinois, before relocating to New Jersey to serve as a District Manager and later as a store manager in Newton.

He retired in 1993 and was a lifelong lover of classical music and a devoted New Jersey Devils fan. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his niece, Eleanor Buchanan; and two great-nieces, Debbie Ivey and Victoria Wilson.
