Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 23, 2024 at her long-time home in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. She was born on May 30, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, to William and Ray (née Portnoi) Rothman, and lived a rewarding life while raising, supporting, and spending time with family.
Born on Memorial Day, Eileen’s parents chose her middle name Glory in commemoration. Her earliest memories were growing up in Brooklyn with much time at her maternal grandparents’ home at 110 Koskiusko St., surrounded by a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. In her teen years, she moved to Forest Hills, Queens, where she graduated from Forest Hills High School in the class of 1947. In her early years, she took great pride in playing the violin in her school orchestra.
Eileen studied elementary education at New York University where she met Morton Levin through mutual friends and married in 1951. Eileen and Morty shared their 50s, 60s, and 70s creating some of their happiest memories motor boating on the Jo-Mar-J, named after their children. Eileen enjoyed cooking, swimming, bicycling, tennis, and traveling.
Family was central to Eileen’s life, and she often expressed that her children and grandchildren were her proudest accomplishments. She is survived by Jeffrey (Arleen), Joan Herman (Stanley), all of Woodcliff Lake, and Mark (Fumiyo Yokokawa), of Honolulu, Hawai’i. Eileen was a cherished grandmother to Lauren Herman (Leanne Muscarella), Ryuhei Yokokawa (Polly), Rachel McGowan (Kevin), Jonathan Levin, and Sam Levin, and a proud great-grandmother of Zeke Muscarella, Maddie and Jack McGowan, and Niko and Hugo Yokokawa.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister.
Eileen Levin’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life. Her positivity and devotion to family and community will forever be remembered and cherished.
