Obituary for Ellen (Neidell) Neuhof

Ellen (Neidell) Neuhof, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, at the age of 81. She was held in the devoted care and presence of her children, Jennifer and Jason, in her final days.

Born on August 27, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, Ellen was the daughter of Sylvia and Hyman Neidell, whose kindness and steadiness shaped her early life. With her older brother, Saul, she grew up in a home filled with warmth and creativity.

Ellen attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, where her love of design took shape. During this time, she met the love of her life, Henry Neuhof. After a brief courtship, they married and soon began their family. Their marriage was marked by loyalty, wit, and genuine partnership—in life and in work. Henry nicknamed Ellen “Mooshie”, after Anne Frank’s beloved cat and forever companion. Together, Henry and Ellen established Capitol Search, a domestic-staffing agency they ran side by side for nearly forty years. Clients came to rely on the integrity and personal touch that they brought to each placement.

Ellen possessed an effortless creativity, a sophisticated yet bohemian sense of style, and a rare resourcefulness. These qualities showed up in her passion for interior design, for hosting memorable celebrations, and for making her house a home. With natural curiosity and intelligence, Ellen often mastered the subjects her children studied in school and had a keen understanding of people. She delighted in feeding her family, in lively conversations, in snuggling up with snacks to watch Dancing with the Stars and All in the Family, and in her crossword puzzles and The National Enquirer. Her humor, originality, and compassion were unmistakable to everyone who knew her.

Above all, Ellen was a devoted mother. She poured her heart into Jennifer and Jason, caring deeply about everything that touched their lives. Through her presence, empathy, and insight, she made their world feel safe and connected.

Ellen welcomed her daughter-in-law, Jenny, and her heart expanded further with the arrival of her grandchildren, Adriana and Maxwell, who became her life’s joy.

In her sunsetting years, Ellen lived with an illness that gradually quieted many of the qualities that had once defined her. Even so, her courage and love endured. Ellen was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Henry, just three months earlier—an echo of a life lived closely.

Ellen is survived by her children, Jennifer and Jason; her daughter-in-law, Jenny; her grandchildren, Adriana and Maxwell; and a loving extended family and close circle of friends.

Her life was a testament to the beauty found in the simplest moments—at home and in the quiet gestures of care and tradition that keep family connected. Her spirit and legacy live on in her children, her grandchildren, and in all who were touched by her warmth and inner strength.

May her memory be a blessing.
