General Information

Full Name: Gloria Vermes
Date of Death: Friday, June 20, 2025

Gloria Vermes, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, died
on June 20, 2025, at age 93. Gloria was born on March 8, 1932, to Ben and Anna
Levine, who immigrated from Europe, and raised alongside her sisters Vivian, Lillian
and Diane in New Haven, Conn.

While living in New York City in her 20s, Gloria met the love of her life, Tom Vermes, on
a blind date. They were married in 1957, and lived in Skokie, Illinois before moving with
their three daughters Joyce, Arlene, and Renée to Queens, N.Y. and later Fair Lawn,
N.J.

Widowed at a young age, Gloria, who worked as a secretary, was the epitome of a
survivor, caring for her three children on her own and later overcoming a number of
health challenges. In her golden years, she was the best grandmother to her nine
grandchildren.

Gloria was a tough cookie with a kind heart who loved reading spy thrillers, a good
game of mahjong, listening to Frank Sinatra, and a strong White Russian. She will be
forever missed, though her legacy will live on through the children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren who loved her so.

She is survived by her sisters Vivian, Lillian, and Diane, daughters Joyce (Philip), Arlene
(Michael) and Renée (Albert), grandchildren Tara (Ben), Stephanie (Tyler), Joshua
(Isabella), Rachel, Matthew (Brigitte), Allison (Ryan), Amanda, Emily (Max), and
Hannah, and great-granddaughters Olivia and Emma, as well as a number of nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M., Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Cedar Park
Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus
Donations in memory of Gloria Vermes may be made to Hadassah.

To my Aunt Joyce, Beanie & Renee,
I can’t tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your beautiful mother. She was one of the kindest people to have ever touched my life, and at such a young age. My first sleepover in Fair Lawn, when I was in grade school, with all of you, was a time I STILL talk about. I felt so welcomed and loved, it changed me. Gloria’s kindness changed me❤️ Love her forever & I will never forget…

Gloria was one of the most wonderful
People, that I ever met in my lifetime.

She was a very kind & caring lady, to her daughters, grandchildren & great grandchildren & always there to help if any of them needed her.

Gloria was my sister in law Joyce’s mother, but she was also my friend. I loved her dearly.

She will be missed, by everyone’s life she touched.
    May she be at peace.
