Irina Shaposhnikov used to be my mother’s friend since they were both students at the Teachers Training college in the former Soviet Union.. Later when Irina , or Tetya Ira as I used to call her, and my mother got married and had children , I became a friend of her daughter Faina in the kindergarten.
Irina Shaposhnikov was a very kind, nice , optimistic person who liked to help her friends , and at the same time she was a stoic tough woman who could find strength and courage to deal with tragic life events. Irina became the second mother to her granddaughter Renata when Irina’s daughter Faina tragically passed away.. She used to tell me a lot about her granddaughter Renata’ s wonderful family which was her greatest joy , happiness , pride and satisfaction in life. The last couple of years Irina was sick but she wanted to fight back and live just to see her granddaughter and her lovely family! She will always be missed and remembered by her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing.
