General Information

Full Name: Lawrence Dunkel
Date of Death: Saturday, January 3, 2026

Lawrence Dunkel was born April 26th, 1926, and passed on January 3rd of 2026.

For 50 years, he shared a rare, deeply devoted marriage with Millicent Dunkel—a true partnership in every sense. Together, they celebrated their eight children, delighted in their growing circle of grandchildren, and spent their days side by side as clinical psychologists. They held hands at the dinner table. They worked together. They chose each other, again and again.

Larry saw patients almost until the very end, stopping only two weeks before his death. Many of those patients had been with him for years, a testament to the steadiness, care, and humanity he brought to his work. Even while undergoing dialysis, Larry found ways to support and encourage the people around him. The staff who cared for him loved him deeply, and he met his final moments surrounded by that affection.

Most mornings began at 4 a.m., when Larry would rise to research stocks, preparing for a full day of trading—an enthusiasm he maintained with sharp focus and curiosity. He was an avid reader, a proud member of MENSA, and the last surviving member of his Army platoon. A WWII veteran, he followed a long family tradition of military service, carrying that history with quiet pride.

Larry moved through the world with remarkable patience, grace, and a genuine love for people. He adored gardening, and his home overflowed with clivia and other plants he propagated with care and then freely gave away. He loved to sing, to quote his favorite movies, and to sprinkle joy and humor into everyday moments.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, most especially by his beloved wife, Millicent. His family will gather privately to celebrate a life well lived, richly shared, and deeply felt.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, if you feel moved to, make a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
