I am one of the lucky ones to remember Lucy’s beautiful smiles not only through video meetings but also in person in the R&G New York office during COVID. I remember enjoying meeting with her in her office every week to discuss on-going developments and whatever other topics that came up at those times. Even though we were wearing masks in her office, once out of her office, we could see each other’s bear face and the smiles from a distance, except, I didn’t know those moments would have been the last in-person moments with her back then. I also remember, on a Zoom meeting, her and even her husband giving me such genuine and sincere advices, from their own experiences, while I was dealing with an issue with our new home construction. I remember she was deeply saddened when her mother passed unexpectedly, and when her family’s dog passed. I remember, at times, Lucy mentioned her husband dearly and fondly. Lucy always encouraged her team members to bring up new tech topics and share them with each other. I think I may have disappointed her by hardly volunteering. She was such a good listener that I would always feel so comfortable talking to her. I don’t seem to remember her without her smiles. I am happy for her because I am certain she is with her mother and her dog now.
I began working with Lucy in early 2021 and found her to be engaged and caring. She was always kind to me and tried to help when I was feeling overwhelmed or stressed out. I appreciated that so much I try to do that for others; instead of getting mad I try to understand what a person might be experiencing and how I might help. But think my fondest memory of her was during an ordinary status call on Zoom we had every week. She’d decided to do the call outside and I remember hearing the wind in the leaves and watching her hair move while we chatted and she drank some tea. That moment exists in my memory as a warm hued vignette in an otherwise cold timeline of other forgettable meetings. It’s something special I will always remember.
Even though Lucy is gone, her spirit of kindness and generosity will live on in all of us
