Our beloved “Sunny” passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2025, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.

Born Sonya Segal, she was known to all as “Sunny”—a name that perfectly reflected her bright spirit and optimistic outlook on life. Her warmth was infectious, and she had an uncanny ability to bring joy to those around her.

Sunny was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and attended Eastside High School before earning a special degree in business from New York University, an achievement she held especially dear.

Her life was filled with passion and a love of learning. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, reading, and exercise, but nothing more than playing Rummikub with her family. She and her beloved husband, Sy, shared a love of travel, especially cruising and soaking up the sunshine. While she cherished her many friendships, nothing was more important to her than family.

Sunny and Sy were the proud parents of Barry (Susan), Joan, and Lynda (Glenn). She shared a remarkably close bond with her grandchildren, Katie, Michael, Paul, and Alysa, and was blessed to know her great-grandchildren, Charlie, Will, Drew, and Liam.

A life well lived, Sunny was an inspiration to all who knew her.
