On July 23rd 2026 Sylvia Kolton Mogerman sadly passed away at the age of 73 in Townsend ,Delaware at home, in her bed, and surrounded by loved ones. Sylvia was born in Paterson New Jersey and she was the daughter of the late Gerson and Anne (Anja) Kolton, as well as her late sister Edith Strout.  She is survived by her husband Phillip Mogerman. Syl and Phil were married for 52 years and have been lifelong friends since the age of 5. She is also survived by her son Joshua F. Mogerman, her daughter in law Marnie E. Mogerman, and her beloved granddaughter Addison S. Mogerman. Also surviving Sylvia are her cherished niece Robin Mittler and husband Kevin; her cherished nephew Jason Strout, wife Lisa and their daughter Jenna. Also surviving Sylvia are her many cousins and friends.
       

Sylvia graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University Magna Cum Laude with a double major in education and english. She started her teaching career in the Montville New Jersey school district teaching grades 1-4. After teaching in Montville she taught for 6 + years as a homebound teacher for severely ill children that could not attend school in person. She concluded her career at St. Paul the Apostle School where she taught 6th grade for 12 years. Sylvia measured her career successes by the many students lives that she touched many of whom maintained a friendship with Mrs. M until her final days. Sylvia’s kind and compassionate nature extended to her beloved dogs and all animals as she was very involved with many animal rescue organizations throughout her life including Golden Retriever rescue. At one point Syl and Phil took in and cared for four Golden Retriever’s all at the same time. Syl and Phil have cared for and cherished 8 Golden Retriever’s throughout their lifetime together which brought them both great joy and happiness.
       

The service will be held graveside Sunday, July 26th 2026 at King Solomon Memorial Cemetery located at 550 Dwasline Rd Clifton New Jersey at 12pm. For those attending please assemble at the Cemetery office by 11:30 am. Donations in Sylvia’s honor can be made to the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. Both of her parents and many other family members were survivors of the Holocaust. Shiva will be observed at the family home in Townsend, DE Monday July 27th and Tuesday July 28th starting at 1 pm.
